Frequently asked questions
Yes! We have students starting from 6 years of age. However, for all students below the age of 12, we require a parent to be present during the class in order to help control the computer hardware and Skype connection. We also feel that it helps if the parent is also engaged in the class in order to help the child interact more efficiently.
The teacher Arup himself is a diploma holder (LRSM) from the ABRSM board, UK. He teaches students for ABRSM as well as Trinity College, London College of Music (LCM) boards as well. Based on an initial evaluation, Arup will suggest which grade a student would be suitable for, and based on the examination schedule in your area, prepare you accordingly. As all the boards have some common components like technical work (scales, arpeggios), sight-reading, aural tests and pieces, Arup stresses on the basics so that a student is capable of being self-sufficient, rather than just memorizing a few pieces from the syllabus. While obtaining good marks in the examination is very important, making sure that the student grasps the basics is even more beneficial for a student's long term musical education.
In short, the answer is that this depends on the individual's abilities. For an adult students, there are cases where this is completed in 6-8 months. On the other hand, for young children starting from scratch, it can vary widely, but typically takes around 18 months. Once the classes start, Arup will be able to provide a better estimate of the timelines based on his assessment of the student's abilities.
